Hey UHollis,

Do you know the full lyrics or correct lyrics to the original version of Lochloosa? From listening to it, I think I have most of it, but not sure I'm correct on a few parts. Mostly just a word or two here and there I think.

all I have is:

Homesick but it's alright,
Lochloosa is on my mind,
where the trees meet the sky

Homesick but it's alright
Homesick but it's alright
Lochloosa is on my mind... oohhh boo boo boo boo...

I see the sun again
in the T? going down
when the sun goes down on me
??? around town ???

I swear it's 10,000 degrees in the heat
or the sea to sea?
Lord, burnin, burning up on me

I was born in a lonely ???
So like whatcha know
When you know whatcha say
Ain't never gonna be the same

and now I pray, the Blackwater rolls,
From a Florida Bay, all the way
To Lochloosa I knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww oooohhhhhhh

But it’s alright, Lochloosa is on my mind
She’s on my mind
Homesick but it’s alright
Lochloosa is on my mind…

Let’s go to Florida ya’ll

(and thus starts Florida)

DT.....the original lyrics to Lochloosa are what you hear on the cd. The words you've written down are the beginnings of what was to become the song we all know today. I take it you were listening to the 5/23/01 show on you tube when you wrote down these words, correct? I listened to it and then listened to a recording of the following night (5/24/01, same venue, Boulevard Cafe, Chicago, Il) and the lyrics are almost completely different....and only about a quarter of the words.

Stan,
yup, that's the one I'm talking about. Just the oldest version that I know of on tape or recorded. I've always liked that version. You have a recording of the next night? How did you manage that??

I faintly recall the bus or I guess it was a winnebago they use to drive on tour, breaking down somewhere in the eastern midwest. Not sure about brakes, but knowing UHollis, he is probably right. For some reason I keep thinking outside of St. Louis and when it happened, JJ was extremely tired from doing everything he was doing (booking, managing, playing, designing merchandise, you name it, basically not getting any sleep at all) and he pretty much decided that was that for Mofro and they were done? Can't remember when, I think it was around Lochloosa album release or a little before. I could be way off on that. And I don't know why he decided to keep going, but I do have it in mind for the next time I get a chance to talk to him to bring it up. Especially after the west coast tour cancellation just recently and the way the economy is halting thier extensive touring.

I'm sure UHollis, Skot and especially Jimbo know this, but throwing it out there to keep the information coming.

What was the name of the record label which signed JJ/Daryl and led them to move to England to record? Who (name) was the agent who did so and why did it not work out to the point where JJ and Daryl were just playing gigs here an there to make ends meet (as Mofro Magic) before coming back to the US?

Also, I know I asked this in a thread a while back that probably got lost in the mix, but with the Professor here, I have a feeling he would know. Is Everybody's in Baldwin still open? And if you want to give us any info on it or some description of it with regards to the song, would love to hear it as well.

In regards to the 4 tress on Lochloosa:

Pine, cypress, hammock and palm

They represent the four areas surrounding where JJ Grey up.

Would you like me to answer the question about the record label and agent too, or would you rather I left that one to someone else?

You two done gone and stumped each other and yourselves? And UHollis wasn't right about the brakes and New York break down? Or maybe he is and Jimbo and Stan both confused each other into thinking he's not... interesting..

Jimbo, what you are thinking of, did it have to do with something on tour to the same nature of a break down/troubles traveling or are you talking about something different where the band neared a catastrophy some other way?

Stan, you can answer the questions that I asked, was just throwing them out there to add to the information Sunshine has been accumulating. Figured those were all important tidbits for our little quest for Mofro knowledge we have going here.

I don't know the answer to this one, but always wondered and I'm sure one of you guys know. After the accident, I remember hearing that there were some friends/bands who had some charity shows or events to help everyone involved with the medical bills until they were back to 100%. Any idea of who or what bands were a part of that?

Hey Jimbo, something a little of the topic of this thread, but figured you wouldn't miss it if posted on here. Can you give us any insight into the progress of Daryl's new material, is it looking like a possibility he will release an album? If so, is it gonna be distributed in a way that a lost Kansas boy like me out in Arizona can get a copy? I'm digging "A Mountain" from his MySpace. It's been stuck in my head now since I first heard it and I spend all day at work humming and singing it while I'm wandering around aimlessly... Your boy has been holding out on us! Should be a crime hiding those grooves from us and acting all non chalant up there playing with JJ and Mofro...

Guess I should have known that being out here in AZ where that probably happened. Can easily see it though, the heat out here rips up tires all the time. Our highways are littered blown/shredded tires, especially in the summer. Smart of them to bend the gas line and keep it going. When was that Jimbo, summer of 2001? I know they went through the Rhythm Room early on, not sure if that was the same part of the tour you are talking about. And did it happen in AZ or California? Don't think the would have went through Nevada then.

The car crash in Florida didn't happen to far from then huh?

And thanks for the info on Daryl, I appreciate it. I'll keep an eye out for new stuff on his MySpace page and can't wait to hear the rest of his album. Congrats to you as well, must be an quite an exciting time for you and the family!

hmmm, well, Im not 100% sure that's the road he's talking about in the above pic, but its on the Westside, and intersects with Normandy Blvd, so I just always assumed it was the one... I did wonder about the spelling, but figured the song title was just a slang spelling. Hell, it might not be the road at all for all I know, now Im second guessing. Certainly coincidental if not...

Before JJ & DARYL left for Europe,DARYL had already
laid out the Music for this song, with very few words,
one being Fouracre, which is a road close to home that
he traveled quite often, after arriving in Europe, JJ
started putting words together with DARYL's music
& reworking FOURACRE to LAZY FO ACRE ,Therefore
no real significance except a popular rd. traveled
frequently by JJ & DARYL & They both contributed to this beautiful song.

OK, here are the answers to your question, DT:

1) Record Label: Acid Jazz Records

2) Agent: Dave Robinson

3) Didn't work out: Because the record label was in a legal battle which caused them to void the contract with the band.
