OK.. so JJ is playing in Minneapolis on April 2 with Booker T. The question I have is that it says solo. So I assume that means no Mofro, but is it just him & a guitar, or does he have a band backing him.
I'm there either way, because this is my first chance to see him live (which, by the way, makes me jealous of you Florida folks...), and there is no way I'm gonna miss the chance!

I would guess just JJ and his guitar.....and if it's half as good as his solo set for the Snook Foundation at Sunset Cove this past summer, you are indeed in for a treat!

And welcome to the front porch! Grab a chair....sit a spell.

Hey there slick! Yes those shows are solo; for sure he'll be playing acoustic, he usually doesn't play electric for his solo gigs. Of course he'll also have his harp.

Don't be surprised if he comes out to do a couple songs sitting in with Booker T.

The management for Mavis Staples and Booker T, etc. wanted the whole band but budgets are really tight out there right now. The gig would've only paid expenses and left nothing for the band. They really wanted him so they worked it out where JJ would play solo. All's good in Mofroland, no long breaks, label problems, management problems, band problems...John, Paul, George and Ringo are not breaking up.

Oh, I left out. That's no rookie question, it's a good question! There's a couple threads on the subject but they're buried a couple pages back so I'm glad you brought it up because obviously there are many people who are wondering the same thing.

Please ask away! That's what we're all here for!!

I would LOVE to see JJ solo, probably a more intimate show. May even be more of a story tellin type of performance. I think you are in for a real treat!

As mentioned above, JJ's solo show near Boca last summer was unbelievable...
The acoustic version of King Hummingbird was worth the price of admission alone.

Thanks for the replies! Now April can't get here fast enough....
The venue that he's playing should be perfect for an acoustic set! The Varsity Theater is/was a movie theater. I haven't been there in years, but if memory serves me correct, it should be around 300 people or so. This is gonna be awesome!!!!

Indeed...the show last summer in Boca was awesome. JJ came out and did 24 songs. Check it out if you want to hear it.

So... just give a detailed report with pics. This is assuming that I'm not so blown away that my report is.. "My God, that was the best show I've ever seen... he played... um... a guitar and harp...."
And that I actually remember that I have a camera in my pocket...
Geez, nothing like putting the pressure on the new guy! ;-)

Wow... run up onstage? I haven't done that in a long time. If it were a different venue, like a club, I'd be all over it, but I have a feeling that I'd get tossed out if I did it at the Varsity. So I'll just do my best to figure out the setlist and give a good review... and take pics while I'm at it.
