Hey Ya'll,
This release of Choice Cuts, reading these posts, while eating a sandwhich made from lastnights French Dip fixin's minus any barbeque sauce damn it, got me to thinking abot other things besides doing some dishes before we all go out and celebrate Cathy's Birthday tonight(great tie into other things old :)....) As brother Clay pointed out on the Choice Cuts thread, some of the younger crowd will never come close to knowing or understanding some of the things that we once knew, enjoyed, experienced, tasted...... you name it. So, my thought was, to name a few or solicit your ideas of what is now gone that once was, and my never again see the life of retro. First thing(s) that comes to mind for me although I never participated or actually had one was....

A paper route
Canvas bag for the route or the metal cart
Paperboys shack, where the papers were dropped off at
Movie projectors in school, click, click click,.....
Rotary phones
Phone booths
Grandparents vacation slide shows
Polaroid cameras, pull apart pictures and flash buls(hot)
Ciggarett lighters, lighter fluid, and the clap of them being closed
Stretch Armstrong
Noah's Ark collector set from Arco Gas Stations (my friend has the complete set with the checklist)
Creepy Crawlies candy machine
Skittleball
Respect (in general)

Just a few off the top of my head:

Clackers....the two acrylic balls (lots of people thought they were made of glass) on the strings with the ring in the middle. You know, the ones that were discontinued because the two balls could shatter if you hit them together hard enough.

Jarts.....not the cheap ones made today with the plastic tips, but the ones back in the day with the metal tips that could do some serious damage.

Mini bikes....not the fancy miniature crotch rockets they put out now.

GI Joe with Kung Fu Grip & Super Joe Adventure Team.....nuff said!!!

Not only the Movie projector, but the Overhead projector too....heh heh.

Hell this is like crack, or so they tell me. You guys are going to be the downfall of me, but what the hell. Speaking of old things, besides myselfl, my '66 Ford Galaxie 500XL, a few old toys out in the garage, some old tools, albums and whatever else. I got the chance to take some old toys once owned by the guy I mentioned earlier, who has the Noah's Ark set, over to a friend of my brother's, who is a collector of old toys, games, soakies(soap bottles), bikes, and other cool stuff. The old toys that I was going to give to Max, that came from Mike, to me after Mike went through his grandmother's stuff after she passed, and who he was raised by, I had told Mike not to through this stuff away, I'll find a home for it. So, I talked with my brother Keith, who worked with Max(electricians they are)at Microsoft, and Keith hd told me that most likely, Max would take the stuff. So, after holding onto this stuff for a year or so, a couple of weekends ago, I keith, to get Max'x number. Keith warned me, that if I made my downstairs, to Max's cave, I might be there for a couple of hours. Hell again, Cathy and I took the Galaxie for a drive, stopped by Max's after calling him, and got the royal tour ! you guys would not believe the stuff he had,....board games from every tv show imaginable, Skittleball games, Schwinns, his 69 Camaro RS SS, big block car, he has owned since he was 16, some vinly, hell it was like a frickin' time machine. Only thing better would have been if Marcia Brady was there serving up some Makers !

Like the man said, Clankers...which we just saw an artsy fartsy store in Ballard, selling some old crap at new prices, and there was a dozen or so, sets of balls w/ broken strings sticking out of them, on this table, pretending to be art, and after a minute, we said hey..........those are them frickin' Clankers !
