This is very cool. I hope it makes it out my way, if not I guess I will have to jump up to Phoenix to see it. Or go and see it when they are in town for the concert!

For all South Floridians this documentary will be shown at the Lake Worth Playhouse on Sunday, November 15th. The Playhouse is only a couple of blocks from the Bamboo Room.

Do I hear a Lake Worth Playhouse "Roll Call?"

I'll find out the time of the show today - there are plenty of watering holes within staggering distance for pre- and -post meet ups.

Very cool. I'll have to check our PBS station(s). BTW, I've asked band mgt if there's any backstory they can provide...how JJ got involved, his writing process, etc.

I watched this last night on PBS. It brought back dark memories that I thought I had finally gotten rid of. I know how hard it is to deal with this stuff. Funny how gettin' older allows you to forget many things, yet not everything will go away, ever.
Congratulations to JJ and Daryl for the well deserved recognition of so many years of hard work. And of course to all the Mofro band members, past and present, whose contributions have been instrumental in creating the band's success.

Thank you Jay. You and all of our veteran's deserve our gratitude, respect, and more. I watched it also. It made me realize all the more that the suffering continues long after the battles have been fought and the wars are over.

I can't imagine what it's like to experience the memories, the flashbacks, the nightmares. I was way too young for Vietnam, thusly way too old for the Gulf war. But I know people who were there, some are okay now and some aren't. None of them can forget.

Thanks for coming on Jay. I know we don't hear from you very often so I think it's very poignant that we do now. Because of JJ, we all learned of this documentary. Had he not been involved it's doubtful many of us, if any, would have heard of it. But because he was involved many of us will watch it and many of us will see first hand the heroes and tragedies of war.

Y'all Jay's probly one of the longest time fans of the band there is. Thanks again for coming on.

Hug a veteran this weekend. Hug 2.

BTW, I imagine it will be shown more on PBS. But it's been edited for length, coming in at about 55 minutes. The full length version starting Monday in theaters is like 20 minutes longer.

I received a little more info on this today. But first let me again say thank you to all of those who have served our country in the armed forces. While everyone's viewpoints may differ on war and involvement, I think we can all agree that these men and women deserve this one day (and more) to receive our gratitude. Their service to our country is invaluable to us all.

Richard specifically, and many others I imagine, wondered about how JJ got involved in this project. The info I received is that the producers contacted JJ's manager. They had come across one of JJ's songs and wanted to license it (use it in the movie.) As they talked more, JJ's mgr found out they needed scoring work done. He got with JJ, got back with them and told them he'd love to do it...and boom: Bob's your uncle.

I only had a rough understanding of film scoring before this. Of course I only have a rough understanding of how to get up in the morning. Just in case there's anyone else out there wondering, this is excerpted from Wikipedia:

"A film score is an alternative word used for the background music of a film (which is generally categorically separated from songs used within a film). The term soundtrack is often confused with film score, as a soundtrack may also include songs featured in the film as well as previously released music by other artists, while the score does not. A score is written specifically to accompany a film, by the original film's composer(s).

Each individual piece of music, within a film's score, is called a cue and is typically a composition for instruments (eg. orchestra) and/or non-individually featured voices. Since the 1950s, a growing number of scores are electronic or a hybrid of orchestral and electronic instruments. Since the invention of digital technology and audio sampling, many low budget films [including documentaries] have been able to rely on digital samples to imitate the sound of real live instruments."
