It was released in April 2001 on the Blackwater album.
Earliest live version on LMA is April 2004.
What happened for 3 years? Usually we hear the songs live before they get released. Down At The Jookhouse is just not the same.

I found one on LMA from a few months earlier on 2/5/2004.....a show I was at while still living in Athens. And the reason you don't see very many earlier shows with Jookhouse is that there aren't many '03 shows and earlier uploaded.

There has got to be more to this story because there are 41 hows out there form 2001 through 2003 and not one of them has Jookhouse as it was released. Seems very unlikely, zero out of 41 shows.

But 4 of them from 2002 have Down At The Jookhouse or are misnamed as Jookhouse but are really versions of Down At The Jookhouse.

Zero out of 23 shows in 2003 have Down At the Jookhouse nor Jookhouse. So I'm guessin that they tried Down At The Jookhouse for live 2002 shows but bailed on that song and eventually worked out a good live version of Jookhouse in 2004 (similar to the released version).

Jookhouse did not become part of the regular rotation until 2004. One of the first ones I remember making the rounds was the version with Grondin from Safety Harbor featured on the SFC. I saw the band multiple times throughout '02 & '03 and it took me till '04 to finally catch a jook...

This just in from JJ:

saw a post about jookhouse on the fan site involving you and I thought I'd hip you to it.

jookhouse as it appears on the album was a jam that happened right after we made a pass at trying to record the real version of the song "Down at the Jookhouse" which is much slower and swung. Unfortunately the drummer who played on that very first session (a guy that has never played live with us anywhere) couldn't swing the beat so Dan Prothero and I abandoned the original version. The jam however sounded pretty cool so Dan did a bunch of editing and that became "Jookhouse" which is on Blackwater. I've decided to bring back the original tune but I'll be changing the lyrics completely making it a different song all together. I'm not sure when I'll do all of that but it will be done at some point.

We did however play the album version of jookhouse live quite a lot in the old days. I remember playing it many times when Nathan was still on the keys. I also remember playing it a lot with Mike Shapiro jamming on the keys as well. No particular reason why songs drift in and out of the sets other than the fact that sometimes you can get on a roll with a tune and sometimes you give it a break.

Gimme.....Can you not download from the LMA? Just asking as I see above where you ask if I can torrent the show from '04.
