So I'm new to this message board, and fan club. Just joined up!
But I think I have braggin' rights, and I'm so excited I'm just about to bust (as they say here in South Carolina), and I've about annoyed my Greenvul friends to snot with this, so I need a new audiance.....
My husband and I only just learned of JJGrey and Mofro oh, say, not much more than a year ago (thanks to my good friend Jim), and within that year, have seen them already THREE times (that's Greenville, Asheville, and Isle of Palms), but BEST of all, we'll be GETTIN' TO YBOR CITY!!!!!! that'll make 4 shows in less than a year, all wrapped up and culminating in YBOR CITY!!
Does anyone else on this board comprehend the significance of seeing JJ & Mofro IN YBOR CITY? - or is it just some silly thing that only people who have lived in Tampa "get"? Speaking of Tampa, yeah, we're some of them there what they call "half backs" - love Tampa, but too crowded, too hot, and didn't want to go back to the frozen tundra of Missouri, so here we landed in South Carolina! and are we ever Lov'in it! (already picked up the accent, didga notice?)
So, wonderin' if my friends from Columbia SC (met you at the Handlebar in Greenville, and then again at the Windjammer in Isle of Palms) might be "Gettin' to Ybor City"? and we met some other great people from Tampa (Valrico, I think actually) at Isle of Palms - surely you'll be "gettin to Ybor City"! So who else'll be "Gettin' to Ybor City"???
Oh, and just one more thing - "Did I mention that" I actually chased JJ down and shook his hand at Isle of Palms....... okay - so do I qualify for "You might be a Mofro fan if": you run JJ down on the sidewalk on a Saturday afternoon at Isle of Palms....
And did I mention that I'm listin' to "Ybor City" right now!!!

Pack an extra pair of draws and come to Orlando the following night...and Jax on Saturday if ya nasty. Around here, we try to do 3 SHOWS in 3 DAYS. You officially have the fever, you now have an excuse!

Hey hey, another Mofro victim has fallen under our spell! Welcome KGinSC!! I'm the one they call Clay (to my face; I've heard about the other names they call me behind my back. I know who you are!)*
Beautiful area you live in--great city, great people, great accents. I think you'll find we're a lively but friendly bunch. And none of that fussin and fightin going on here. Like giggles and sunshine said, we're just spreading the Mofro love.
My trophy wife and I were at the Peel in the spring this year and at both Isle of Palms shows. Did we meet? I guess not.
Damn skippy we'll be at Ybor. Already booked a room at the Hampton just 2 blocks from the club. It's only 30 mins to my house but who wants to drive after a Mofro show??

Oh, and even tho I live in Tampa I totally agree that the significance of the boys playing in Ybor City is way cool.
And as for qualifying for the YMBAMF thread, I think so. But rumors have swirled that giggles licked his face one time, in public mind you. That's a pretty high standard, if the rumors are true and I've no idea whether they are or not.
There's also a rumor that she tried to kiss JJ's butt one time. WAIT! THAT'S NOT A RUMOR!

Welcome! I am pretty new to this board too! You are in good company. I have not met you, but I live in Columbia and was at the Windjammer too. Do you plan to make it to Greenville and Charleston? We should get you and your other Columbia friends to meet up at the SC shows!

Sunshine - am I gonna make it to Fall for Greenvul? Heck yeah! So, yup, that'll be FIVE!! And a few of my Greenvul friends who I couldn't talk into comin to Tampa [same ones I've annoyed the snot out of about me going to Ybor] will be there too!
mofrofans1 - actually, real Greenvul speak woulda been "I'm so excited I'm gonna shit or bust, one" - but I cleaned it up cuz I didn't know y'all yet! And "Damn skippy"? now that's Florida speak if I ever heard it! I don't think we met at the Peel, although I was right up front (and I do think I saw the top of my head on some videos from the Peel on some other string) – I was next to some a couple from West Virginia. And remember that opening band, "Sons of Bill", I think was their name? Well, there was a couple to the right of me who recorded the whole Sons of Bill performance and then skedaddled before Mofro even started! [Losers] I think they musta been mom & dad Bill... oh, and I say "I was up front (as in just me, alone)" because my Sweet Husband had secured himself a stool at the bar and left me at the stage! I'll post some pics of us later so y'all'll know what we look like too, and so you don’t haft depend on just lookin’ for two freaks in Mofro t-shirts! We've got a place in Tampa about 30 minutes from Ybor too, (but not for long, hope to be closing on it EOM) - but we're looking into the hotel thing close to the show too. I did see a thread about eatin' at some place up on Nebraska, but I think we're gonna try to go to the Columbia. Lived in Tampa all them years and never been there (to the Columbia, that is). I know it's a little pricey, but this is our last big fling trip to Tampa (for a while), so might as well "throw it down" as my hubby says.
Looked at your pics from Isle of Palms & my friend Jim (who was there both nights) tells me those are pics from Friday night. I was only at the Saturday show. And yes, we think he is in one of them (but I'll let him point himself out if he wants to)

KG, let me fill you in on some of these here folks. Sunshine, when she's not tending to her chilluns and husband and hiking/camping in the Blue Ridge mountains, holds down the fort here. If she ain't tending to one of the above and she's not on the board, figger her power must be out.
As for Giggles, she's a sweetheart. Just don't believe a single thing she says.
Antsyashley is also a real sweetheart. You can believe her. Cept when she's drunk.
Estanley is okay. His fiance is one of the nicest, caring people you'll ever meet. It's a shame she ended up settling for this guy.
Firefly hasn't checked in yet. We don't know much about her except she's from another planet.
Now to answer your questions...we must've been awful near you at the Peel. There's pics from that show on the Photos page. You can see where we were.
The Hampton Inn in Ybor is where everybody that's staying is staying. Other than a very faincy (read expensive) hotel, the only other one is more expensive and a longer walk.
Yep, we're going to pre-party at Ella's on Nebraska. It's about 5 minutes from Ybor, just south of Hillsborough Ave in Seminole Heights. Don't blame you for wanting to go to the Columbia though. An institution if there ever was one.
Yep that's me in the hat, nope never been to the Handlebar. Never saw the guys in Greenville, just been there on bidness.

I'm going to check on the Hampton - my husband (here after to be referred to as MG, or if I'm in a hurry, just M) talked about using frequent stayer points and stay at the big Marriott downtown Tamper(he's enamorred with taking the streetcar over there) - but I'm not so sure the streetcars are even still running anymore.. and it would be really cool to stay the same place y'all are.... and be able to stagger over there
Also gonna talk to him about Ella's - reminds me of a place in St. Louis we used to love called Venice Cafe, a little bit, would love to check it out.

Yes KG the streetcar (losing money like a sieve and heavily subsidized by the city) still runs. I don't know any locals who've ever been on it, including myself. But maybe we're missing something!
Check out the drop down menus and there's a thread or 2 on people's favorite bands. Ain't nuttin wrong here talking about other bands...except for Cowboy Mouth. If you talk about Cowboy Mouth you have to trash them (inside joke that maybe 10 or 12 of us are in on...I'll explain when we see you.) ---------- MofroFan1
Coupla more things there KG...the other hotel right there in Ybor is a Hilton Garden Inn.
I don't know how late the streetcar runs. Course you could always catch a cab back to downtown. Hell, it ain't but a couple miles. I'm pretty sure there's gonna be an aftershow at the Ritz with a local band after Mofro's done. I wouldn't be all that surprised if JJ jumped in on a song or 2. If'n you hang around for that I'm sure the streetcars won't be running cause we may all be partying til 2 or 3 a.m. and we'll block the doors and won't let y'all leave.

Dern Clay! I'm almost gettin' sorry we left Tamper! Our townhouse (the one we're hopefully selling next week) is in Waterchase, right on Racetrack Road just between Country Way and S. Mobley - close to Citrus Park!!! Heck we're as good as neighbors!

Here's a double bonus y'all. I taped this at The Ritz in Ybor last weekend. Bunch of us were there. The Legendary JCs are a long time staple in Central Florida. John Dude and Liz get a hug from Eugene early on. He's an awesome guy and helluva singer. These guys are fantastic. Mofro used to open for them a lot. AC used to be their drummer.

Hey, and no disrespect intended for my new Tamper friend and fellow Mofroian, but I do hafta take exception to your comment on the home page that "WMNF 88.5 the best fcking radio station in the entire universe" I have lived in Tamper, I have listened to WMNF. And while they are great, giving the a run for their money (if not passing them in the final yard), is WNCW - up here in good 'ole Spindale, NC - check them out - http://www.wncw.org/. And, aw, shucks, they even do Bluegrass!
I'll have to check out WNCW there KG. But in defense, MNF has 3 Bluegrass shows (Monday night, Saturday mornings and Thursday in the wee hours of the morning.) I don't think there's a genre that MNF doesn't have, you just have to know when to listen.
