It's baaaaack! OR, for those of you who weren't around last year, it's heeeeeere!

Although there was a lot of interest in this last year, I never got it off the ground. My bad. But now it's time to make up for it.

Sunshine,

It was something that we talked about in the beginning of this discussion, but it was never anything concrete. Was an idea for the contest and I would think is still just an idea at the time. I think it was something that Clay brought up originally that we thought would be killer if that was something that was possible. We also talked about the possibility of it happening could be interrupted by what the band could or would want to do.

I just think if the band had the final 3 to decide from and picked one to be the top list, performed or not... would be an honor.

Okay boys and girls we're ready to get this show on the road! I've cleaned up this thread a bit. Thank you to Delerious Time, Sunshine, and others who contribute their ideas in the past.

Below is a summary of everything but be sure to go here to get all the official details. LEARN ALL ABOUT THE CONTEST HERE

HOW TO ENTER:
1. Make a setlist (16 songs ONLY)
2. Email it to dreamsetlist@mofrofans.com no later than Sept 15, 2009
No attachments please; simply put list into body of email msg
3. Chill; voting will start same week

RULES: WTF? Rules??
Hush yo mouth. We got prizes, we gotta have rules.

>Only one submission per person allowed.
(People who submit as couples may submit one per person.)

> Put songs in order of how you envision them being played.

>Please refrain from noting/requesting a certain version of a song

> Cover songs are allowed but LIMITED to FOUR (4). Cover songs are FURTHER LIMITED to those that the band has played before,

JUDGING: A panel of 5 judges will narrow the the list down to what they consider the top 10. (The judges shall remain anonymous until after judging is completed.)

Then the voting will be opened up for y'all to narrow it down to the top 3.

The top 3 setlists will be sent to the band where JJ and/or the whole band will select the winner, as well as 2nd and 3rd.

No lobbying to those outside of Mofrodom. Can't send out a mass email to all your MySpace friends to come and vote on you, etc.

All Mofro fans can participate. Setlist submission and voting is NOT limited to only those on the message board.

....good one Mr. D!!

:o)

Blind judging meaning:
will the judges have access to whose setlist is whose, or will you, say, give each entry a number that would correspond to their name; so all the judges will see is a number (not a name) on the entry

just curious....

Ohhhhhhh. Correct--the judges will not know whose entries they are looking at. Doing it as you described, with numbers, is most likely the best way. And of course I was giving you shit--it's a good question and I'll add it to them thar rules. (I thought the braille comment was funny but ya know I'm kind of strange that way!)

Couple of clarifications. Someone contacted me the other day and asked if Footsteps and Turpentine is one song or two. I made an executive decision: it's one. If you're going to include it, please do so like is usually done on the band's setlist: Footsteps>Turpentine.

There's a little bit of courteous grumbling going on about having 16 songs on the setlist instead of the originally discussed 20. Before settling on 16 I researched the band's setlists and found they average 17 songs (I did not include festivals into the avg.) The idea of reducing it to 16 was so if JJ looks at it and says "...wow, we gotta do this..." then it gives him opportunity to add songs if needed.

Anudder way of looking at it is if JJ decided to use the winning setlist and because of time restraints they could only do 18 songs then 2 or your songs are going to get cut if we use a number of 20 but if we use 16 then the chances are excellent that he'll do the whole list and perhaps 2-4 more.

I've received a few entries over the last week or so and there's some really good stuff. No worries...3 weeks until the submittal deadline. I have to find 5 sight-impaired judges between now and then (right Sunny?)

will the winner's winning setlist be on an official setlist paper like the boys use? or on like a normal sheet of paper? dunno why its bothering me not knowing this.

Now THAT's why I've been missing dirtcracker...he's always asks the questions that others want to but don't. Sho good to have you back on here dc.

They set them 2-up on 8 1/2 x 11 sheet, convert it to a PDF and then print out x copies and cut in half...it's just plain paper tho, at least all the ones I have are. My vote is we should do the same thing, right down to how they abbreviate them, etc. so the winner's setlist looks as close to the real thing as possible.

Comments...?

Obe Wan Clay-Nobi,

In your expert opinion, should setlist submissions contain a % of OB songs or is this more of a carte blanche, go hog wild, pick songs that are your heart's desire contest?

But, since I'm known as having a propensity for being long-winded, why blow it now?

Indeed we had talked about whether to do that or not and then I took all the input, put it into a blender and then used what came out: go hog wild.

I think to make it where we have to have a certain percent of songs from OB is indeed keeping it real, but a bit too real. It could take some of the fun factor out.

So shake up the setlists, have your way with them, make 'em all songs from one album or make 'em all the same song if'n you want. Make all 16 songs Brighter Days! It's YOUR dream setlist.

Course, if your interested in the prizes, much less the bragging rights you may not want to do THAT. Keep in mind that the final 3 will be sent to JJ to determine the winner. And what he might be thinking is anyone's guess. He may look at one and say yeah I like the balance of songs; he may look at another and think it's just a killer setlist and pick it.

Thanks! This contest is going to be the death of me! I thought I was almost done, but now that I know I can go hog wild, my present setlist just got hurled in the trash bin. Giving me carte blanche is a very dangerous thing!!

Create the setlist of your heart's desire, your wildest dreams, your very own get down-to-the-bone-with-some-funky-front porch soul.

I'm guessing that:
A. a lot of y'all are real busy and ain't had time or
B. you're still working on your setlist and'll get it here by the 15th or
C. are just a watcher and not a player or
D. don't rightly give a shit or
E. contest? what contest?

Thus far all we got is a whopping total of 7 entries. Unless we do a lot better'n that I'll have to call this a flop.

it is hard for me to concentrate at work on this list and too much action on the home front too. so we are going camping again this weekend and I plan on taking my MofroPOD and sinking myself into the stillness of the ridgetop I will place myself upon and feel the energy and then I shall be able to concentrate.......

and I shall submit Monday the 14th

and i really don't know how people had such a hard time with this...trick was to just jot down 16 songs and then email it to Clay. the more you think about it, the harder it is.
