Mofro will join the likes of Widespread Panic, Eminem, Kiss, and Jane's Addiction at this year's annual Voodoo Fest in New Orleans - Halloween weekend.
http://thevoodooexperience.com/2009/

Adam let it slip last weekend that they were playing that fest. And he said to stay tuned because a big grand ol' fall tour is being planned!

YES YES YES!! Mofro will also be playing a show at Tipitina's in New Orleans on November 1 after they play Voodoo! YES YES YES! Much better than playing HOB here in NOLA. Glad they are back at Tip's! (I live ONE MILE from Tips!!). This will likely be one of those late night shows with a bunch of musical guests including anyone from Galactic, Big Sam, Papa Mali?, and who knows who will show up! Matt Grondin lives here now, so he'd probably love to step in, too. Kerry is our resident NOLA Mofro expert, and I wish he would chime in, but he is working festivals in California at the moment.

By the way, Mofro's date for playing Voodoo is Sunday, Nov. 1. The same date as Widespread Panic's show at Voodoo.

ROAD TRIP! Stan, scoop me up on your way through Cigar City!

Seriously though, I think we'll be in for this one...sounds too good to miss.

Oh how I miss Ash's enthusiasm!

Hey E! You can get all this enthusiasm in person when you come to NOLA! I am so glad to hear all this interest in coming to town for Halloween. Should we all dress up in costumes Saturday night and hit either the fest or the town?!

Firefly, that is a brilliant idea! Either an alien or a firefly! :-) I'm still thinking about a costume, IF I do a costume. Still not sure if I am going to Voodoo fest all three days or just Sunday Nov. 1 (Day of the Dead). I know for now there are only tix avail for 3 day passes at $160. Planning to spend Sat. Halloween night in the Marigny with all the crazies on Frenchman St. Lots of great late night shows will be going on there, and all over town.

Passing on a tidbit....

If you're in New Orleans on Thursday, Oct. 29, you can see Blues Traveler FREE at Lafayette Park (5:00 pm - 7:30 pm) as part of the Harvest the Music Fall Concert Series. I have once been to a free show at the park, and I will tell ya, it's very crowded, you have to spend a lot of time if you go to get a drink or some food, and it's difficult to see the stage unless you get there early. So, don't make a special effort to be here for it, but check it out if you happen to be here already.

And guess what? We're only 6 weeks from Voodoo!

Yes, excited. Am looking at taking off work Oct. 28 - Nov. 3. Still trying to think of a Halloween costume! Firefly, are you planning to go to all three days of Voodoo?

I was just talking about Jaques-Imo's this morning. I haven't been yet, but hear that they have some of the best fried chicken you'll ever eat. Let's do it! That might be a great Friday night dinner idea. And we can go to Coop's sometime too! That's JJ's favorite eatin' place here. They have some amazing (and hot as hell) Jambalaya with rabbit, sausage, shrimp, and tasso (Cajun ham). Your mouth will be on fire, but it will be thanking you!

Of course you can add me to the roll call. I know Josh will come with me to Tip's, but I don't think he's going to Voodoo. He definitely wants to haunt around the Marigny on Halloween night, though. And my friend Louie the Taper will most likely be going and taping. And John (Hog Calla) says he plans to go Sunday to Voodoo and Tip's as well. It's gonna be tons of fun!! Wish Kerry (Swamp Cracka) was gonna be in town. But he's doing the festival circuits in Cali right now. And who knows where he'll be at the time.

"I haven't been yet, but hear that they have some of the best fried chicken you'll ever eat." I am SO there. I am on a quest to find the world's best fried chicken and by god I'm going to keep trying even if it kills me. Shit...even if y'all decide not to go I am so there.

I've heard JJ talk about Coops on recordings. That sounds good too.

"krispy kreme donut bread pudding" You've GOT to be kidding me! I MUST have some of that. My cholesterol is rising just thinking about. I'm gonna come back from NOLA either fat and happy or in a pine box!

this is from jon cleary's newsletter:

Cleary's Piano, Bass & Drums will be setting up shop for a weekly residency in the intimate confines of dba on Frenchman Street in the Faubourg Marigny on Thursdays in October on 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. The trio will feature noted bassist James Singleton (Astral Project, Professor Longhair), and funky drummer Doug Belote (Larry Carlton, Jerry Douglas). Come for the weekly hang to check out JC's newest material while sampling dba's amazing selection of whiskey and tequila.

Put on your freakiest costume and head down to the Maple Leaf on Saturday, October 31st for a slamming show with Cleary's new trio featuring the sly funk of drummer Doug Belote, the lyrical bass playing of James Singleton with special guest Donald Harrison on saxophone. It will be a night to remember!

Let's count out who all's heading to NOLA and what you're doing and shit.

1. Clay and TW
2. FireFly & RobFly
3. Antsyashley and friend
4. SaNdMaN??
5. SwampCracka?
6. ???

We got our room booked, in the lower Garden District. Got a good rate on a flight so we're flying. Got to parachute out from 10,000 feet, but hey a good rate is a good rate.

We'll be hitting the ground about 10 a.m. on Friday. Ain't nobody on the lineup at the Voodoo grounds we particularly wanna see on Friday nite but these all sound good:
Rebirth Brass Band and Big Sam's Funky Nation
Porter Batiste Stoltz w/ Bonerama @ Tip's French Quarter
Galactic with Mike Dillon's GoGo Jungle @ Tip's Uptown

The next 2 days are intended to be drunken debauchery at its finest. I don't remember yet what I want to do. I forgot to what I did I don't remember. Right?

Message for the budget-conscious: Most shows at Le Bon Temps have NO COVER CHARGE! And they do free raw oysters on Friday nights 7-9 pm!

Yay! Clay and TW booked their room and their flights! I'll be happy to pick y'all up from the airport, or from wherever you land. And that goes for anyone else flying in for Halloween!

I am so lucky to be off from work Oct. 28 - Nov. 3!

Hey guys -- I can buy tix for the Nov. 1 show at Tip's in person without paying the $4 fee per ticket. If anyone would like, you can mail me a check or, as Firefly suggested, send cash through Paypal (do they charge a fee?). I'd be happy to buy tickets. Let me know soon.

They had no one listed before. This band's myspace page says they play folk and are influenced by "Banjos, blues & breakdowns! Tequila, tongue twisters & time travelers! Marijuana, mothers & mobsters!" They sound creative....

Oh Clay -- life without oysters...boo hoo! OMG, those raw oysters in Jax Beach last NYE were the shit! From Apalachicola Bay, FL! Sooo delish! Totally worth another trip.
