First of all, nice work on the site and progress made since it got going. I've been following the site for a while but just now got the time to sign up to the message board.

Safe to say JJ and the boys are by far my favorite band of all time as many of you obviously feel the same. I was at the most recent concert in Arizona and actually got the privledge of sitting on stage for the entire set.

Talked to the tour manager for quite a while and even told him about this site. He was very cool and extremely kind to take his time to make sure it was like every other time I've seen the boys, a time to remember. I guess he has recently accepted a new job opportunity which will cut down on his traveling making that show his last with the band for the time being. Much thanks to him for not only last saturday but everything he's done to make Mofro what it is today.

With that, some new information being that I am probably the last person to talk to the guys and see them live until they head back out later on this month. With George, I kinda had a feeling something was up on Halloween when they played at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix.

George just played, there was no eye connection between him and the rest of the band, no solo on Junior like when they were here in March, a couple of months before that show. But JJ went around the horn skipping George. And after that show in October, George was no where to be found while the others were hanging out.

The tour manager didn't say anything when I asked him but he seemed a little frustrated with whatever happened. Everything with George was great and he's been there for a long time, but remember, he was never really a permanent part of the band. Like alot of others, he was borrowed from Robert Walters 20th and just seemed to stick around for a while. But like Art, Dennis, and Adam, they are always working with other bands and other projects. George being no different.

I don't know why, but can't blame him with the touring schedule they put up every year and from what I understand, George is getting married soon, which obviously can have a huge effect on whether or not he should be out on the road over 250 days out of the year.

With that, no offense to George, but I think AC is and will be a better drummer. This guy has skills and can play. Even from listening to tape of Wanee and then comparing it to what I saw last saturday, he's making leaps and bounds. That's just three shows in. He probably thought I was crazy cuz I was paying attention more to him during the concert than the others, but he adds alot and when he knows the songs I have a feeling it will be unbelievable. I talked to him after the show and he's a very cool guy, told him he made leaps and bounds after three shows and he was joking back that after the 6th it's gonna be easy. All joking aside, he's talented enough that it probably will be. He adds something extra to go along with Art and Dennis and once it all ties together lets hope they capture it on the new album.

Well, finally got to post and wrote a book, so I better leave some for later. Thanks again for the site, nice work. It's good to see others appreciate what JJ and the boys represent. They are a class act, not only as a band but as the individuals themselves.

Hey Delerious Tyme--thanks for joining. I've noticed in my stats someone in your area lurking around the site for awhile...glad you jumped in.

Sorry for the delay in getting posting back.

Me too, as for Mofro being my all time favorite band...and that's saying alot considering all the great music of past and present.

Shit, I've never even THOUGHT about creating a fan site for anything. But back in January the idea hit me as we were driving home from seeing them 2 nights in South Florida. I didn't even tell my wife...I mulled over it a couple weeks and decided to go for it.

People ask me what my hobbies are and I tell them JJ Grey & Mofro. They say what else, and I say the JJ Grey & Mofro fan site. Those that know Mofro get it. Those that don't look at me like I have a large male appendage growing out of my forehead.

I feel so sorry for the ones that don't get it. They'll never experience the feeling. Oh well...fuck 'em; more for us!!

Thanks for all the great info. Everyone has made some great contribs, and I'm actually thrilled with the number of posts considering the short time the site's been up. Yours especially is cool because it's one of the things that I had hoped for...that we can share stories from concerts and stuff you know that we don't know and vice versa.

Danny Owens, the tour manager is a hell of a guy. I agree with you that he's been instrumental (no pun intended) in where the band is today. He wears about 10 different hats and works 26 hours a day. And the guys all really like him.

My wife and I had a ticket problem in S. Florida in January. Drove 4 1/2 hours and when we got to the club our tickets weren't valid (long story.) The club manager, also a real nice guy, got Danny, he then got on the phone, and long story short straightened everything out. (This all while the band was ready to go on, but JJ and Daryl were AWOL and Danny had to worry about that.) Now it's funny; it was a bit stressful at the time though.

He's a class act. I'm hopeful that his company is still going to handle things. I saw Danny's resume online a few weeks back, and it said his objective was to get off the road so much and find something in the NY area where he lives. Glad he found something but he'll be hard to replace; maybe he's got someone lined up that'll be working for him and answering to him.

The guys have a new stage manager. I'm sworn to secrecy as to who it is, but he starts at Joshua. He knows his way around and he knows the band; he'll do great. If I say anything further he'll kill me and put my body with Jimmy Hoffa's.

Now, DT, here's what all inquiring minds what to know: how in the love of God did you get into the wings the whole time?? WOW! I mean HOLY SHIT WOW!!! That must've been a total blast. (What's your secret? We won't tell nobody.)

We're going to really miss George; he's such a nice guy. That said, we met AC at Wanee and got to talk to him for about 20 minutes and, hell, he's as nice or nicer! It was funny cause he told us he had only rehearsed with them twice. He's been performing on stage since he was 3 and he said he's never been as nervous as he was at Wanee. Being the first show with the band, he was worried about how the fans would react. He knows we're all devoted freaks!

But there was a bunch of us there from central Florida gathered at the front for their show that know him from the JC's and we were all yelling his name and he said he could hear it and he got comfortable pretty quick.

Man, he's got one hell of a musical bloodline. He plays sax and piano just as good as he plays drums. His mother is Linda Cole, an acclaimed R&B singer. She's related to Nat King Cole so of course so is AC.

I guess I wrote a book too huh? I get going and can't stop. (And I'm supposed to be working right now but was feeling guilty cause it's been so many days since you posted!)

Come on back...spread the word...keep the swamp funk alive

Made some time to type a quick message. Especially when you ask for songs to be added to the list for either live or ones that could be on the new cd. I've got three originals that happen to be a couple of favorites of mine and goes back a ways. Here goes:

Dew Drops ~ I searched for so long for a good live recording of this song and the archives produced not much longer after searching. Great Song.

She Don't Know ~ Gotta love any song with JJ and his harp, I have this one as a ringtone when my ladyfriend calls.

Give Me That Drop ~ I told JJ last time that now that he has Art and Dennis that this one would rock to play live. Those guys would make this a favorite I bet if they got it going.

Also, here is the set list for McDowell Mountain Music Festival - Scottsdale 4/26/2008:

Air
Jookhouse
Fireflies
Lochloosa
Dirtfloorcracka
Footsteps~Turpentine
Florida
How Junior Got His Head Put Out
War
I've Been Loving You Too Long (Otis Redding)
By My Side
Six Ways From Sunday
The Sun Is Shining Down
Got My Mojo Workin'

Finally, Clay you asked how I got to kick it on stage at this one, well, the festival has a raffle for charity, $10 a ticket and they picked a name 15 minutes before each band and the winner got to go on stage in what they called 'Best Seat in the House'. Well, I won somehow, sat on stage on the plush couch with my girlfriend for the entire set. Talked to the tour manager for quite a while. Of course, Danny was so nice to let me have a set list which I had signed by the entire band. JJ signed last and handed it to me expressing it's rarity. I knew well before he said anything. I still sit and stare at it shaking my head as to what all happened at that concert. Safe to say it's framed and safe. Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. The guys were as nice as ever and joking around like we'd all known each other since childhood. Who or what band can you say that about? And these guys are my favorite. It doesn't get any better... Thanks. I'll post more when I get the chance.

Well Sunshine, I've been a little busy at work this past week, out of town for a travel show and just backed up on office work now that I am back. I've typed up most of the story as to how I got on stage, but then today was looking at the pages and pages of threads we've had and I figured I would venture back in time to the original thread and original story for you to check out. Clay gives a good story about MOFROTM, Danny Owens, to go along with mine and this thread dates back to the first time I posted on here and a few months after Clay started the website. I'll post some pictures on this thread that go along with the story for your viewing pleasure.

Let me know if you have any questions Sunshine, or anyone else about what happened, how, when, who, etc... and I'd be happy to answer them for you.

Well, I'll be!!! I am SO glad you brought up the original post! It has that "Posting while it is still fresh from the concert high" feel to it.... and what a heck of a first post. Amazing story to boot! Wonder what my first post was? I know it could never compare to yours. Pics are fabulous! Thank you DT and, once again, kudos to you too Mr.D for just going for it when you developed this site! I love it when you said:

"People ask me what my hobbies are and I tell them JJ Grey & Mofro. They say what else, and I say the JJ Grey & Mofro fan site. Those that know Mofro get it. Those that don't look at me like I have a large male appendage growing out of my forehead."

LMAO!

TOO AWESOME DT!! I have about 4 or 5 set lists myself. 2 favs come to mind, the one that JJ and Simmone signed regarding my BBQ and the one that everyone signed the last time I was at the Peel! I have them both stored away in my Mofro-phanalia box.

and you got to see them perform "I've been loving you too long", major jealousy here.....that would be AMAZING!!

Yup, this was my first set list, have a few others. They are prized possessions as well, framed or locked away safely. The other thing is I have the entire show on video as well minus the first song, Air, I think, when I was taking pictures and getting situated. That's what Danny commented on about the show when the question of this popped up about him saying "Turn off that camera!" Was just a little inside joke. He was very cool about it and made sure I knew the rules before I could continue. Danny was great and helped make it a memorable time, which are pretty much a given anytime you go to a Mofro show. This show will always be a favorite of mine just from what all happened at once, how it lead to me posting on the site and connecting with Clay and now all of you who have found it as well. That and being my girlfriend's first show, where I pretty much predicted what was going to happen and all of it came true. Told her Art and Dennis would dance and make her laugh, that we would get to sit on stage, she would get to meet JJ, and that they would play her favorite song, Sun is Shining Down, which of course they did. Just one of many memories for a Mofro Fanatic, only one of too many to count of all the Mofro Fanatics out there.
